Third annual conference of the Regional Research Network of Central Banks of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) - September, 14 and 15, 2023

 

Bank Al-Maghrib and the Office of the Chief Economist for the MENA region of the World Bank organized in Rabat, on September 14 and 15, 2023, the third annual conference of the regional research network of Central Banks of the MENA region under the theme "Labour markets and structural transformation".

The event brings together experts from Moroccan and foreign academic circles as well as officials from national and international organizations. Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Abdellatif Jouahri (Governor, Bank Al-Maghrib), Ferid Belhaj (Regional Vice President, World Bank), and Younes Sekkouri (Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, employment and skills). During this edition, four main sessions were led by Esther Duflo (Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics and Professor of Development Economics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Chang-Tai Hsieh (Phyllis and Irwin Winkelried Professor of Economics, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business), Seema Jayachandran (Professor of Economics and Public Affairs, Princeton University), and Rachel Ngai (Associate Professor of Economics, The London School of Economics and Political Science). The work of the conference essentially addressed structural change in the MENA region in relation to: gender inequalities, poverty and labor market reforms, employment dynamics, human capital, migration, environment, and the private sector.
