Demonetized notes

The demonetization of notes and coins is taken by virtue of a decree. Several series of notes and coins were demonetized in Morocco. Under the provisions of Decrees No.2-97-965 of January 1998 and No. 2-03-547 of 8 August 2003, a decision was taken to withdraw from circulation by exchange of banknotes and coins the following denominations:
5 and 10-dirham banknotes, Type 1960, issued into circulation under Decree No. 2-60-153 of 28 March 1960.
50-dirham banknotes, type 1965, issued into circulation under Decree No.933-65 of 15 December 1965
5, 10, 50 and 100-dirham banknotes, Type 1970, issued into circulation under Decree No. 2-70-573 of 8 October 1970
These aforementioned banknotes which ceased to be legal tender since April 1,1998 have been were accepted without limitation for exchange at Bank Al-Maghrib's counters until December 31, 2011.
 

Demonetized coins

Metallic coins of 1-dirham in silver, type 1960, issued into circulation under Decree No. 2-60-726 of 30 August, 1960
Metallic coins of 1-dirham in silver, type 1965, issued into circulation under Decree No. 2-65-114 of 30 March, 1965.
5-dirham silver coins, type 1975, issued into circulation under Decree No.2-75-360 of 17 July, 1975.
