Migration to the IMV standard
Bank AL-Maghrib ensures a quarterly follow-up of domestic bank cards’ migration to the EMV standard. The latter is named after the founding organizations (Europay MasterCard Visa), and constitutes the international standard for the security of payment cards whereby the strip card is substituted by a more secure smart card.
At end-2015, only 77.37 percent of cards issued in Morocco comply with the EMV standard.
